Leadership
There are many gifts...and to each is given a manifestation of the Spirit for the common good...”
(1 Corinthians 12:7)
As a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation, Rock shares in the Reformed theological tradition in electing officers to serve the congregation as ruling elders. Both men and women are eligible to serve in all offices of church ministry. Ruling elders share leadership with teaching elders (ministers of the word and sacrament) as part of the local church’s council or Session, and represent the church as part of the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy.
The call to ordered ministry in the church is an act of God, evidenced through the movement of the Holy Spirit in the individual, the approval of God’s people, and the concurring approval of the appropriate council of the church. Election to office reflects our commitment to the diversity of our church. Leadership in the church also reflects our baptismal identity as people who accept Christ's call to be responsibly involved in the full ministry of the church.
The Session meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.
The pastor of the church serves as moderator of the Session. Our Clerk of Session is Ruling Elder Joanne Kramer.
